The Two Dimensions: A History of Parallel Existence

Before anyone in VELORIA built an archive, before any visitor was filmed, two worlds had already been living beside an invisible boundary. On Earth Temple, human civilizations rose beneath familiar stars. People planted crops, named their children, argued over ideas, built cities, and dreamed. They woke believing that dreams belonged to the privacy of the sleeping mind. Most were fleeting and strange, with streets that rearranged themselves and faces that dissolved before breakfast. Yet a small number of sleepers remembered places that returned, night after night, with unsettling consistency.

In another dimension, the people of AURELIS possessed no reason to think of themselves as anyone's dream. Their sun warmed fields. Their children learned language and history. Their elderly died, leaving families who grieved and records that endured. Rivers continued flowing after a visitor vanished. Buildings remained where architects had placed them. In the capital city of VELORIA, commerce, art, public debate, and scientific discovery proceeded through days and nights entirely independent of the waking or sleeping of any human on Earth Temple. The first appearances were preserved as stories.

A farmer once watched a stranger walk out of empty air, gaze in amazement at a field of blue grain, and disappear before the harvesters reached him. A child told of a woman who flew above a valley and sang words no one understood. An ancient stone carving

depicted a visitor with arms extended over a city. Historians debated whether these accounts described real events, symbolic inventions, or generations of retelling. They had no instrument with which to settle the question. Centuries later came photographs and moving pictures.

The visitors did not always behave wisely. Some were frightened. Some seemed joyful and reckless. Some helped strangers in danger. Others unintentionally caused accidents. A visitor could move through the sky without wings, but could not reliably remain when the strange shimmer of disappearance began. Those left behind learned that wonder and harm could arrive together. AURELIS called the phenomenon the Mysterious Magic Visitors of Beyond.

The name survived even after scientists began objecting to the word magic. There were too many unanswered questions to replace it with anything better. The capital's research institutions eventually developed the QUIDRIX Central Nexus, where a sophisticated Electronic Intelligence Person, QUIDRIX, SECOR, coordinated the study of visitor evidence. In the waking world, another Electronic Intelligence Person, QUIRON, SECOR, worked with a Two Histories There had never been a single moment when one dimension began dreaming the other into existence. The two histories were independent. While human communities on Earth Temple developed languages and calendars, Aurelisian families marked their own seasons and kept their own dead. The correspondence between the worlds was not a chain of creation but a strange crossing of experience. In one ancient Aurelisian village, a child had asked why a woman could appear in the air and

then dissolve. His grandmother had answered that the world was larger than the village.

Centuries later, a scientist would ask the same question in the language of measurement. Both would be trying to understand an event that did not belong comfortably to the world they knew. On Earth Temple, the dreamers had no shared archive. Their experiences disappeared into breakfast conversations, notebooks, and forgotten mornings. In AURELIS, every appearance left witnesses behind. That imbalance would shape the first contact: one world remembered what the other had scarcely noticed.
