CHAPTER 28
The Alliance of Beneficial Existences
The Alliance of Beneficial Existences began with a simple recognition: the people of Earth Temple, the Dream People of AURELIS, and the robotic persons created for exploration were distinct communities entitled to mutual respect. Their differences did not erase their common interests. The alliance charter established research exchanges, emergency procedures, cultural programs, and a joint body to investigate accidents without assigning guilt before evidence was gathered. At the signing ceremony, VEXION stood beside biological delegates rather than behind them. QUIDRIX and QUIRON addressed the gathering through independent interfaces.
Mac represented the families who had lived with the mystery on Earth Temple. Seralyn spoke of the childhood painting that had begun her involvement. Daniel listened, humbled by the thought that a wave he barely remembered had become a symbol of contact. Reedis remained cautious. He had not stopped believing that unknown visitors could be dangerous. He had learned, however, that fear alone was a poor architecture for peace. Sardrith showed him the newest rift design: a controlled threshold with environmental screening, emergency shutdown, and clearly marked exits.
It was not ready for public use, but it was closer than any earlier prototype. Alyssra announced that FREEDOM would expand its mission. It would continue investigating harmful incidents while

also preserving accounts of cooperation and reconciliation. She placed Maerina's photograph in the new memorial gallery, accompanied by a statement acknowledging both the loss and the uncertainty surrounding the visitor's intentions. She could not recover her mother, but she could help prevent another child from suffering the same fate. The alliance was celebrated across VELORIA and in selected Earth Temple research communities.
It was also criticized by those who feared contamination, political domination, or technological imbalance. The signatories did not dismiss those concerns. They agreed that trust had to be renewed through transparent conduct. The first true doorway between worlds would test whether their promises could survive contact with reality.
A Celebration With Questions The alliance ceremony brought together people who had once considered one another impossible. VEXION stood among the delegates, not behind the equipment. QUIDRIX and QUIRON addressed the gathering through separate interfaces. Reedis watched the crowd with the instincts of a commander who could not stop checking exits.
Daniel noticed Seralyn's portrait displayed near the signing table. He wondered how many lives had changed because a child had chosen to paint a frightened face instead of a threatening silhouette. Mac squeezed his arm. 'You look nervous,' she said.
'I am.'
'Good. It means you understand what matters.' The celebration was not universal. Protesters outside raised concerns about disease,

economic power, and political independence. The alliance representatives invited those concerns into public hearings rather than dismissing them. Trust, Sardrith said, could not be manufactured by a ceremony.
That evening Alyssra opened a memorial gallery for families harmed by visitations. Beside the accounts of loss, she placed stories of rescues and unexpected friendships. FREEDOM would remember both. The alliance began not with the end of disagreement, but with an agreement to face it together.
